The Flintshire village of Halkyn is located in the north of the country between Pentre Halkyn and Rhosemor. The village was recorded in the Domesday Book when known as Alchene, and in the middle of the 18th century was recorded as Halkin in the Racing Calendar of 1768. It hosted a race meeting administered by the Holywell Hunt on Thursday 17th November 1768 when the feature event was the Halkin Gold Cup. Six runners went to post for the two mile event on Halkin Mountain, with Boadicea getting the better of Cymro and Clown. Although the Holywell Hunt Group continued to organise meetings, no further mention is made of Halkin as the venue. |
